Profile of Ms. Vivian Huelgo
- Ms. Vivian Huelgo is the Chief Counsel to the Task Force on Human Trafficking and Commission on Domestic & Sexual Violence, Chief of the American Bar Association.
- She leads programs to assist lawyers through continuing legal education; provision of technical assistance; publication of legal texts; and promotion of state and federal legislation
- As Community Law Project Director at Sanctuary for Families, Ms. Huelgo managed staff attorneys and pro bono lawyers representing domestic violence and human trafficking victims from marginalized populations including immigrant and LGBT communities.
- She crafted legislative advocacy efforts, coordinated pro bono and oversaw law student programs.
- Ms. Huelgo was Director of Legal Services at Safe Horizon, Inc. the nation's largest crime victim's agency where she managed the Domestic Violence Law Project and the Immigration Law Project.
- In 2006, she received the Flor de Maga Award for Women in the Legal Profession by the Puerto Rican Bar Association.
- Ms. Huelgo has lectured for the U.S Department of State, Coalition against Trafficking, and the ABA globally on Gender Based Violence, Human Trafficking, and Access to Justice.
- Ms. Huelgo is a proud participant in Move to End Violence, a program of the NoVo Foundation designed to strengthen leaders, organizations, and the movement to end violence against all girls and women in the United States.
- In Ranchi she will be meeting with activists, law enforcement and the government in order to understand the ground realities and challenges as well as share best practices regarding combatting trafficking and gender based violence
- She is also interested to know about legislative initiatives and remedies based on both criminal and civil legal systems especially in the context of Jharkhand.
